I thoroughly enjoyed both quiet place movies the first one was very surprising it came out of nowhere John Kinski as a director for a horror movie that’s very spense based unknown writers that are no longer unknown the second one I really really liked and what’s so interesting about this franchise is that the first two films take place potentially after the more important part of
the story and that is what actually happened on day one when no one knew what to expect when nobody had any training when we we aren’t like you know 3 400 Days into this thing and everybody kind of understands how to keep themselves safe what happens to those people who are there literally on day one so when this prequel was announced it felt so obvious it felt like well yes of course but having talked to both Brian Woods and Scott Beck who wrote
that first movie they were very adamant about the fact that they were trying to write a film that they could make very cheaply and contained they thought they could maybe even just make it on their own in Iowa where they lived and so they weren’t able to make a movie like day one where you’re in this gigantic place where everything is going down and you have no idea what’s going on and it’s obviously one of the most fun aspects of the film that you get to watch people experiencing
this for the very first time but Through The Eyes of Lepa yongo who is an excellent casting choice for obvious reasons she’s an incredible actress but if you’re a character who’s still alive in a quiet place movie it’s because you don’t talk all that much which requires an actor who can sell a lot of emotion without speaking and Lepa yongo is that actress she
does so much with so little very subtle facial expressions just the tiny bits of body language tell you everything you need to know about how she’s feeling about something and there are many scenes throughout the film where she’s face to face with a creature or one is nearby and she has got to stand completely still sequences like these are pretty
much integral to the quiet place franchise and this movie has tons of them but we also have a very compelling way into her character which isn’t talked about that much in the marketing so I won’t get too into it but seeing a character dealing with what she is dealing with put into a situation in which imminent death is just a a footstep away on the wrong piece of glass or something it’s very exciting to
Direction and Cinematography
see how a character in her shoes would react to the fact that she has to survive because of what she’s also dealing with in her own life much is going to be said about the extremely adorable cat in the film named Frodo and her name being Sam and the fact that they do a lot of walking in the movie I mean that’s got to be like they knew what they were doing the thing that’s most impressive about the quiet place franchise and that this film I think proves is that you can almost jump into any day and find anyone on Earth who’s
dealing with this situation and you’ve got a compelling story I want to see a version of a quiet place but it’s people who went to like an isolation Retreat you know those like places where you can go for like a month where there’s no cell service no internet and it’s designed to cut you off from society I want to see those people who are emerging like a month after some sort of isolation Retreat into this world they’d probably all get killed really fast though so maybe it wouldn’t be that
Themes and Premise A Quiet Place
interesting but it’s just one of the most versatile premises in Horror history really I mean we all have to make noises all day so we’re all in threat of being killed by these things that don’t like noises at all that’s one thing about these movies that I would like to know just a little bit more about what exactly is the goals of these things are they just kind of going to kill us all do they want to physically eat us do they want to take over the planet like there are hints of answers in the movies for sure but nothing like
terribly concrete and not concrete enough for me the other thing about the movie is that it doesn’t really give that much characterization for a man that she meets along the way it’s very brief he’s kind of in the movie and suddenly he’s part of the movie and we’re supposed to care a lot about him but it’s a little tough when the most were given is that his parents are overseas one of the things about those first two movies that was so Universal is that it’s parents trying to protect
Conclusion
their kids and make sure that a life can be brought into the world and then continue to protect that life that’s just like everybody kind of understands that the characters that we’re following in this movie are not as emotionally compelling but the performers certainly are if you like the first two movies I don’t necessarily think this is quite on their level but I do still think that it’s filled with a lot of great suspenseful sequences and one excellent Central performance .
